    1. A) Briefly describe one difference between the economy of British North American colonies in the Chesapeake region and the economy of the Eew England and middle colonies

In the Chesapeake region, the economy was based off of agriculture, or more specifically cash crops. They produced indigo, sugar and rice, and a lot of tobacco, and these crops required large-scale labor and the importation of slaves. British North America was a much colder region, promoting a different type of economy. Their form of agriculture was small-scale subsistence farming, while they also built ships, fished, and used their large supply of lumber.

    1. B) Briefly describe one similarity between the economy of the Chesapeake region and the economy of the New England and the economy of the middle colonies

New England colonies and the Chesapeake colonies were both involved in the mercantilist system with Europe. The raw materials from the new world were exported to Great Britain, the mother country and colonists only bought from Britain. This acquired more wealth in Britain, and the Navigation Acts, restricting trade strictly to England, promoted this economy.

1 C) Briefly explain one reason for a difference between the economy of the Chesapeake colonies and the economy of the middle colonies

A difference between the economy of Chesapeake colonies and the economy of the middle colonies was the use of labor for their agricultural production. In Chesapeake, the large-scale plantations for cash crops promoted the use of slavery and they began to import massive amounts of African Americans. In the middle colonies, where they farmed food, such as wheat and corn, they relied more heavily on indentured servants. Both Chesapeake and Middle colonies used indentured servants and African Americans, but more of each in the specific place.

2 A) Briefly identify one cause of the development in the excerpt

Berkley knew the importance of the role of Native Americans played in the economy and trade and attempted to keep a peaceful relationship. When colonists tried to expand into their land, he protected the Natives. Bacon and followers wanted to fight with the Natives but Berkeley refused to allow this. Bacon then concluded that Berkeley didn't look out for and support the common Virginians.

2 B) Briefly describe one argument made in the excerpt

Bacon believed that Berkeley in no way, shape, or form was helping the colony of Virginia. He refused to let the colonists spread out and the colonists believed he was only helping the wealthy landowners.

2 C) Briefly describe one similarity between the Native American actions depicted in the excerpt(Virginia colony) and the Native American actions in another European colony(Mass. New England colonies)

When the colonists tried to expand into Native lands, the Natives resisted and retaliated. Governor Berkeley tried to stop colonists to avoid conflict, but they didn't rebelled. While this was taking place, King Philip's war was going on in New England colonies. Natives, led by Metacom or King Philip, tried to stop english settlements on their land and tensions arose. They raided and destroyed land and a war begun. It led to many deaths and ultimately ended Native resistance when they finally surrendered to the English. Befo

3 A) Briefly explain one example of how contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies in the period of 1492-1700

Before Europeans arrival in the new world, they had been in contact with many other regions and cultures. When they arrived in the New world, they brought over many diseases the Natives were not immune to, most notably, smallpox. Rapidly, the native population declined, and while some didn't die they were soon used in the encomienda system for forced labor.

3 B) Briefly explain a second example of how contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies in the period of 1492-1700

The Europeans brought over goods the Natives were unfamiliar with. Both Europeans and Natives desired each other's goods. They established diplomacy and trading where they both gained valuable goods. This changed the natives economy and policies, and introduced new tools and weapons to their daily life.

3 C) Briefly explain one example of how Native American societies resisted change brought by contact with Europeans in 1492-1700

Many Native American tribes tried to resist the changes brought about by Europeans, and one example of how they did this was by forming alliances. These alliances helped give them protection. One alliance formed was the Five Nations, or the Iroquois confederacy, where the Natives came together, but also, Natives formed alliances with Europeans. These alliances helped conduct trade, but also to fight enemies and exploitation of one another for their own gain.

4 A) Briefly explain ONE important similarity between the goals of the Spanish and the English in establishing colonies in the Americas prior to 1700

The European colonies throughout the period of colonization were very competitive with one another. A similarity between the goals of the English and Spanish in establishing colonies was that it was a move for power. They wanted to acquire new land and new resources to gain more wealth.

4 B) Briefly explain ONE important difference between the goals of the Spanish and the English in establishing colonies in the Americas prior to 1700.

The Spanish and the English had different goals when crossing paths with the Native Americans. The Spanish wanted to use the Natives for their labor force and tried to convert them to Christianity. They were incorporated into their social hierarchy also known as the Castas system. In the english colonies, they pushed the Natives away, and out of their land. the Natives often got land taken from them and sometimes were forced to do labor, but never became apart of the English life.

4 C) Briefly explain ONE way in which the difference you indicated in (b) contributed to a difference in the development of Spanish and English colonial societies

While the Spanish colonies incorporated the Natives into the societies, many interracial marriages occurred. This led to people of mixed race called mestizos. These people were of higher ranks than the Indians but of less ranks than the white Spaniards. This was a way that an Indian could gain social status and wealth. This blending did not occur in England.

5 A) Briefly describe one specific historical difference between the role of religion in the Spanish colonization and the colonization of New England

The English and Spanish, when coming to America, expanded their religion in different ways. In the Spanish colonies, they focused on converting the Natives and spreading Christianity throughout their territory. In the English colonies, many different religions came to the New World, including Puritans, Quakers, and Protestants. They came to escape persecution and freely practice their ideas, while being less focused on converting others.

5 B) Briefly describe 1 specific historical similarity between the role of religion in Spanish colonies and the colonies of New England

In both the English colonies and the Spanish colonies, they had little tolerance for other religions. In Spanish America, many with other beliefs were persecuted for not following Christianity. From involving themselves in religion, Natives could higher their status, and believers of other religions often had to pay religious fees. As for English colonies, while having many religions established, new beliefs were viewed as a threat to powers. In each colony you had to practice the ideas the state promoted.

5 C) Briefly explain 1 specific historical effect of religion on the development of society in either the Spanish colonies or the New England colonies

Puritan dissenters affected the development of societies in the English colonies. Anne Hutchinson challenged the teachings of the church and preached to many including males. The governor, John Winthrop, viewed her beliefs as dangerous and she ended up having to leave the colony. Roger Williams is another example of someone who preached different ideas. Both believed in religious freedom, and Williams establishes Rhode Island a safe haven for dissenters where, at one point, Anne lives.

6 A) Briefly explain how ONE specific environmental or geographical feature of the New England colonies contributed to the region's unique development before 1754.

The New England colonies were heavily depended on for trade, especially in the Atlantic for the Triangle Trade. The trade port immensely benefitted the economy and the colony itself due to its position in the middle of the colonies and easy access to European trade.

6 B) Briefly explain how ONE specific environmental or geographical feature of the middle colonies contributed to the region's unique development before 1754

A geographical feature contributing to the development of the middle colonies was the waterways that the colonies were located on. This led to the success of the shipbuilding industry from the abundance of trees the colonies had. The rivers also attracted lots of business, facilitated fur trade, and made the exportation of food crops easier.

6 C) Briefly explain how ONE specific environmental or geographical feature of the southern colonies contributed to the region's unique development before 1754.

The environment in the southern colonies had a warm climate and fertile soil which helped the production of cash crops. They depended on agriculture, and the long growing seasons helped shape the development on the colonies.
