General Questions

Q: Can I play WoL with other mods?

A: If you want to have both WoL contents and other mods contents together in the same skirmish/scenario for example, nope. AKA, DO NOT PUT DIFFERENT MOD FILES TOGETHER UNLESS SAID OTHERWISE (when the author says it's compatible).

If you want to play WoL sometimes and other mods some other times, you will have to install WoL in a separate folder that is different from the other mod's folder.

Q: I get CRC-Mismatch on every game, why?

A: Make sure your Wars of Liberty is on the newest version. Simply run "Wars of Liberty Updater - 1.4.exe". You can download the Updater here: DOWNLOAD

Also, make sure the guys you want to play with are also playing Wars of Liberty.

Q: Why did my game go out-of-sync during a multiplayer game (on LAN, on ESO or elsewhere)?

A: OOS, or out-of-sync, is a bug that occurs in multiplayer games. We are trying to figure out what causes it, but it's difficult to point to the culprit. It may depend on the AI, it may depend on the map, it may depend on the civs or it depends on the internet connection. We can only advise you to not play on unstable internet connections, to avoid playing versus the AI and to not use the exact same settings again. Switch civs or switch map. Playing with fewer people usually also helps.

Q: Why does the game lag when computer opponents/AI are present?

A: Wars of Liberty improve the AI, and that comes with more code, so more things that have to be calculated, slowing things down. Wars of Liberty also adds many complex systems, like the African library, and these things have an especially large impact on the number of calculations. Aoe3 had poorly optimized AI code, and the script in which it is written isn't flexible, making it very difficult to achieve simple things like teaching the AI how to pray. To make things worse, aoe3 doesn't support multiple cores, which is why even good-performance computers can have a bit of lag. Avoid games with many AI and avoid to let the game get to the point that only huge battles occur.

Q: There is something wrong with the textures. Why do some units/buildings have weird texturing, or why do some units/buildings appear completely black?

A: Aoe3 comes from a period where games didn't receive lots of mod support. This frequent bug is an example of that. The game somehow refuses to load the right texture, and loads a base game texture or just loads nothing. The more games you start in succession, the more likely that you will encounter this bug. We can't really fix it, it's a base game issue, but fortunately, there is an easy way to get the right textures back. Just relaunch your Wars of Liberty and it should be fixed.

Q: When is the next patch? Or when does a certain feature or civ come out?

A: Wars of Liberty, like all mods, isn't like a game company where people work on something, and need to respect deadlines. The people who work on mods don't get paid, sometimes they get donations, but most mod developers receive nothing. They make mods in their free time. Having obligations or deadlines is the last thing they want, it's their free time after all! So give them their time, don't ask for the next release, be nice and appreciate what they have already made for you. That's the way to get the next release.

Q: Where is the Great War age? How do I access it?

A: In short, it is still a work in progress. In the past, when the mod was called the War of the Triple Alliance, the Great War was added. However, it was very unpolished. Wars of Liberty removed the Great War, to make sure that it will be of much better quality. Lots of work already existed, and since the start of the mod lots of improvements have been made, as you've probably seen. Enjoy the mod a bit longer while the Great War is getting finished!

Installation Questions

Q: What is the requirement to install Wars of Liberty?

A: All you need to have is, Age of Empires 3, Warchiefs, and The Asian Dynasties. In short, get a complete set and is updated to the latest version or get the Complete Edition (Steam version is the safest bet).  Now, in terms of Minimum System Requirements:

• OS: Windows XP
• Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.0 GHz
• Memory: 2 GB RAM
• Graphics: 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X1300

Q: I can't install Wars of Liberty, how do I fix that?

A: After you have Installed Age of Empires 3 with all Add-ons, remember to activate the vanilla Age of Empires 3 (no expansions) first before doing anything else! Then, you have to start " The Asian Dynasties " at least once, before Installing Wars of Liberty. Also, make sure your game version is 1.0.3

Q: My Installer Shows " Insert Disc 1 " ?

A: You want to uninstall the game Completely from Steam so it clears all folders and caches. Once that is done, install the whole thing again. After it installs run the game in this order: AOE3 Vanilla War Chiefs Asian Dynasties While in the game tweak a random setting in options to your liking (do this all 3 times, once for each game). After that begin installing WoL and make sure to install the mod into a copied bin folder that you copied from steamapps/common/age of empires 3. It should start to install and will take several minutes. If it asks for a CD key or it says insert disk 1 then you did it wrong and have to go back and do it again. After it’s installed, make sure to install the updater and the latest version of Java. Once that is done double click on the desktop icon and the game should be working like normal! Q: My game Gives me error: " CODE 740"

A: Your Anti-Virus is blocking the game. Deactivate or reinstall it to solve this problem.

Q: I cant change my Resolution??

A: Always run the mod as administrator. Still doesnt work? Go into " C:\Users\ (yourname)\Documents\My Games\Wars of Liberty\User3 " go into the NewProfile3.xml and search for " optiongrfxres " and change the resolution to your monitor size. Also you can put Windowmode on ( Borderless window ) to make tabbing in and out of the game not a pain " optiongrfxwindowmode " change FALSE to TRUE

Gameplay Questions

Q: I can't find some of those cool maps like the Moon, Antarctica, Bermuda Triangle, Ecruteak, etc.? Is it a problem with my version?

A: Those maps are not included in the mod...yet. One could say we announced them a bit too soon, so sorry for that. The one who was responsible for those maps, unfortunately, left the mod team, and there was no one else to replace the person. Now we have a new map coder, but the future of those maps is still uncertain...

Q: What do African and European native sites do? They don't seem to be any purpose to them. Are they bugged?

A: They are not yet finished. African Commodities had in the past some techs, but they were poorly balanced and uninteresting, that's why the team decided to leave them blank until they have worked out something much better. European Profession sites were added in advance to some of the European maps, as having non-functioning sites was deemed much better than having Huron natives dwell in Europe.

Q: What is the Anglo Congress building? How do I build it?

A: The Anglo culture used to have a building called the Congress, and some techs and cards still mention it. However, Congress has been removed and will not be re-added. Some of those techs that reference Congress may be fixed, but because the Anglo culture will be reworked soon they may not change until then.
