How will you establish a theory of probable cause according to the CompTIA troubleshooting method

A good mnemonic for the CompTia troubleshooting steps is "I Eat Tacos Every Valentines Day" 1. Identify the problem. 2. Establish a theory of probably cause. (Question the obvious) 3. Test the theory to determine cause. 4. Establish a plan of action to resolve the problem and implement the solution. 5. Verify full system functionality and if applicable implement preventative measures. 6. Document findings, actions, and outcomes.

Part C And here's the ones from the book: * Step 1: Identify the Problem * Step 2: Establish a Theory of Probable Cause * Step 3: Test the Theory to Determine Cause * Step 4: Establish a Plan of Action to Resolve the Problem and Identify Potential Effects * Step 5: Implement the Solution or Escalate as Necessary * Step 6: Verify Full System Functionality, and If Applicable, Implement Preventative Measures * Step 7: Document Findings, Actions, and Outcomes Hope this helps someone out there!

Part B Take the first letter of each word and group them into two. Remeber couples that are at the end of a sentence and begining of a sentence are grouped with eachother. ip ct tt ep-ie is-ei vf-ip df ip => identify problem ct => create theory tt => test theory ep-ie => establish plan -- identify effects is-ei => implement solution -- escalate issue vf-ip => verify findings -- implement preventation df => document findings

This method would probably confusing for some. I would say just memorize the logical progression of the method so that when you see one you can just ask yourself "Logically which one comes next?" and youll be able to think of it. But thats what worked for me.

Part A I have multiple mnemonics to memorize each one. They're kind of ridiculous but they also help me remember the compound steps. The last two words of a sentence are part of a compound step. For example, eat pizza (EP) and Is eating (IE) are part of one step. Anyway, here it is: If pizza can taste terrific, then eat pizza. Is eating ice safe? Eating is very fun! I prevent dead friends.

1. Identify The Problem

In the first step of the troubleshooting process you identify the problem. Display won't turn on? , printer won't print ? , internet isn't working? This step is the foundation the rest of the troubleshooting steps are built upon.

2. ESTABLISH A THEORY OF PROBABLE CAUSE

3. Test Theory To Determine Cause

In this step you test the theory you came up with in step 2 to ensure that's what's causing the issue. No internet connectivity? See if the router has any status lights illuminated.. Printer not printing? Check paper tray to see if it's filled. Display not turning on? Verify that the monitor is unplugged.

4. Establish An Action Plan And Implement It
