Since 1918, Archiv für Musikwissenschaft is one of the leading German periodicals for musicology. Articles in German and English deal with topics from all musical periods, including ancient music, medieval songs as well as contemporary compositions. The periodical focuses on the development of European music in a historical as well as a systematic context, always aware of the individuality and creativity of each single musical piece. It is the editors' aim to create a forum for the discussion of musicological research as well as to contribute to current debates of new developments.

The Zeitschrift für Ethnologie (Journal of Ethnology) has been considered the primary journal of German ethnology for over 100 years. It was founded in 1869 by German scholars Adolf Bastian and Robert Hartmann. The Zeitschrift für Ethnologie publishes articles of a theoretical-methodological nature, with emphasis on empirical knowledge. Authors with new material on the subject of regional ethnology present their methodology, their theoretical perspective and the further development of the theoretical-methodological discussion through their results. The Zeitschrift für Ethnologie also offers a view of German ethnology abroad and provides an international forum for ethnological discussion through the inclusion of the articles by prominent foreign colleagues. The journal is published under the auspices of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Völkerkunde (the German Society for Ethnology) an the Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte (the Berlin Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and Prehistory).

Publisher Information

The Dietrich Reimer Verlag was founded in 1845 by Dietrich Arnold Reimer, son of the well-known publisher Georg Andreas Reimer. It was focused on Maps, Geography, Archaeology, and Art. Reimer’s successors extended the scope into the fields of Ethnology and African Studies. Today the publishing company is still privately owned and has a backlist of about 2,000 titles. There are about 60 new titles per year. The company is specialized on academic titles in the fields of Ethnology, Archaeology, Architecture and Art History. The list includes Textbooks, reference books, monographs, exhibition catalogues, and journals.
