When it comes to finding the best monitor for PS4, there are so many options available that it can be somewhat overwhelming, but fear not, as we'll be cutting through the noise with some of our top picks available right now.

Let's face it, loads of us still have their trusty PS4 or PS4 Pro displayed proudly in our setups, and even with the huge amount of interest in grabbing a PS5, many would rather wait until it either becomes readily available or simply drops into a specific price range.

Going for a gaming monitor over a TV offers a few distinct advantages with PS4. Lower response times and input lag, higher refresh rates, and you can get a screen that is optimally sized for gaming too. That being said there are several excellent TVs for PS5 that would work well with PS4...

With that in mind, we've put together this compilation of what we think are quality monitors for PS4, based on specs, general reviews, and other features which we think made them stand out from the crowd.

We've included great FHD options and excellent 4K displays, but since PS4 doesn't support 1440p native right now, (although the PS5 has recently become compatible), we've left QHD monitors off this list. If you're still keen, you can see our top 1440p monitors here.

We've also left off any HDMI 2.1 monitors, as it would be a little 'overkill' for what the PS4 is capable of. That being said, if you're planning on future-proofing for when you upgrade to a PS5, you can see our top HDMI 2.1 monitor picks right here, and also check out our latest review of BenQ's latest HDMI 2.1 monitor too!

Let's get to it, here are what we think are the best PS4 monitors.

Best PS4 Monitor

  • BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P 24 Inch
  • HP OMEN X 25f 240 Hz Full HD
  • ASUS VZ249HEG1R
  • AOC Gaming U28G2AE 4K
  • LG Electronics 32UN500 31.5 inch 4K
  • Iiyama G-MASTER G2530HSU-B1

Best PS4 Monitor for Competitive Gaming - BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P 24 Inch

BenQ has some seriously impressive monitors to their name, and the ZOWIE XL2411P appears to be a popular choice for both budget-minded and competitive gamers.

It's 144hz with a blisteringly fast response time of 1ms, alongside full HD resolution.

1080p resolution on a 24-inch screen is arguably the sweet spot, making the image look crisper than if it were 'stretched' onto a large display, but the real advantage of this size is the competitive factor.

Many of the e-sports pros will opt for smaller screens so they can see everything in their line of sight, which can be critical when it comes to winning or losing in games like COD Vanguard, Fortnite and more, making 24 inches one of the best monitor sizes for gaming out there.

For PS4, you're getting a good quality 1080p monitor ideal for smaller setups, and for the PS4 Pro you'll get to enjoy 60 fps on this via the HDMI 2.0 port at 1080p - a great monitor for Warzone.

Best PS4 Monitor for Refresh Rate - HP OMEN X 25f 240 Hz Full HD Gaming Monitor

Now, 240hz may seem like overkill... and it is, but sometimes bagging more than you need can be a wise move, especially if you're planning on moving over to next-gen in the future.

The , like the BenQ Zowie, has a 1ms response time, 1080p resolution and, of course, a 240hz refresh rate, which combine to make it one of the best 240Hz monitors around.

Standout features which make the OMEN X 25f more on the pricey side include a stunning design, an almost bezel-free display, and some nice ergonomics to counter the TN display's understandably lower viewing angles.

We'd say PS4 Pro players may get more out of this than PS4 slim owners, but if you're as in love with the design as we are, and are looking for a good long-term investment, that may not matter!

Best PS4 Monitor IPS Under 200 - ASUS VZ249HEG1R Gaming Monitor

ASUS make some amazing monitors for gaming, which vary in price to accommodate a whole range of uses. The ASUS VZ249HEG1R is another affordable, fast, and great-looking piece of gear which should pair nicely with your PS4 or PS4 Pro.

It's similar to other monitors on the list, however, there are a couple of differences.

It has a 75hz refresh rate, which is more than enough for the PS4 and PS4 Pro, and it has an IPS display, a panel type that lends itself well to vibrant colours and wide viewing angles.

IPS panels are some of the best panels for gaming monitors and work well with this particular monitor too.

For the price, the ASUS VZ249HEG1R is a versatile monitor which would be great for gaming, working, and much more.

Best PS4 Monitor IPS 4K - AOC Gaming U28G2AE 4K Gaming Monitor

Now, the AOC Gaming U28G2AE is a monitor we'd say is well worth looking into if you've got a PS4 Pro, for several reasons, and could even be a great monitor for PS5.

It's crisp 4K resolution on its arguably optimal size of 28-inches should work well to capture some of the finer details in some of the PlayStation hits.

If you're going for performance mode, you'll have a 60hz refresh rate to accommodate that. Brightness is also present in abundance with 300 cd/m² and should be sharp, but this doesn't come with HDR - a feature that generally pushes the price a little higher.

The AOC Gaming U28G2AE is a good-looking monitor, and if you're planning on doubling up the usage for work, not too bad at all if you ask us.

Best PS4 Monitor for 4K HDR - LG Electronics 32UN500 31.5 Inch UHD 4K HDR Monitor

If you've got the budget and want something pretty epic, we'd say the LG Electronics 32UN500 could be a good call.

It's 4K, HDR-10, and 60hz, but the 'slight' trade-off is that response time of 4ms. But this isn't a monitor that we'd place in the competitive gaming category, which is reliant on a low response time, but rather something to enjoy some amazing titles on PS4 in incredible quality.

Design speaking, LG seem to also have a knack for building minimal, clean-looking pieces - well suited for those who may want a more understated, aesthetic look to their setups, and the LG Electronics 32UN500 is no different.

Best PS4 Monitor for Under 150 - Iiyama G-MASTER G2530HSU-B1 Gaming Monitor

The Iiyama G-MASTER is the cheapest monitor on our list, but boy, does it pack an impressive resume.

It features 1080p, 1ms response time, 75hz, and a very decent 250 cd/m² brightness, which makes it a good choice for well-lit rooms.

For the price, the narrow bezel design is a nice touch, making this a tempting choice if you're looking for quality at a very reasonable price.

It may be cheap and cheerful, but the Iiyama G-MASTER is still more than enough for the PS4 and PS4 Pro on performance settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're looking to upgrade your PS4 or after something that will be usable on PS5 when the buying time is right, then going for a monitor can add a refreshing change to your setup.

Here are a few tips, tricks, and pieces of advice for getting the right monitor for you.

What monitor size is good for PS4?

We'd say that getting a 27 or 28-inch monitor is best.

This is because it will provide a nice middle-ground for the competitive players who like a smaller panel and those gamers who want to get a cinematic experience.

If you're looking to get competitive, you'll likely want a smaller display to allow you to easily see everything on screen and reduce eye travel.

Can a PS4 run 144Hz?

As things stand, unfortunately not. The PS4 and indeed PS4 Pro are unfortunately capped to run at 60Hz and therefore can't run 144Hz.

For higher refresh rate gaming you'll need to invest in either a PS5 or Xbox Series X or a standout gaming PC.

What is better for PS4 - TV or monitor?

This is a big one actually, especially as many TVs that could do the PS4 justice are quite reasonable in price nowadays.

We'd say the major thing to consider here is your setup. While TVs are multi-usage in the living room, monitors are multi-usage in offices.

Getting a monitor for PS4 allows you to get something with fast response times, high refresh rates, and something usable that doesn't take up too much space.

On the other hand, getting a TV will allow you to have a larger screen, potentially with bonuses such as a 4K HDR panel and even OLED, which will arguably look better on a bigger display.

Even then, we're seeing a fair amount of brilliant OLED gaming monitors hit the market with TV-like panel sizes, which are also HDMI 2.1, so you can get a vibrant experience on your trusty PS4 and be all set for when you get your hands on a PS5.

Many of the best TVs for PS5, for instance, can be used with your trusty PS4, and it's worth noting there are some exciting TVs recently released in 2022 with the Sony A95K, Sony A75K and LG C2.

It all depends on what you're planning on using the device for, but for 60Hz gaming, we'd say monitors are a good choice. For using the PS4 as intended, we'd also say to get a gaming monitor over a regular monitor.

What specs does a monitor need for PS4?

PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro have different outputs, the latter being able to play in 4K resolution at 30fps, or 1080p at 60fps, so keep this in mind when making your selection.

PS4 Slim typically plays games in 1080p at 30fps, which is upscaled on some 4K displays, but we'd always say if you want to get the most out of 1080p resolution, it's good to go more towards the smaller size displays at 24 to 28 inches.

For anything with 4K, head towards the 32-inch mark and you shouldn't be disappointed!

Is it worth getting an HDR monitor for PS4?

It's not absolutely vital, but it will make a difference when it comes to how much contrast the image has.

Remember though, not all HDR monitors are created equal and while some provide those deep blacks, they can also make the screen appear quite dark in general.

Having used one of AOC's 4K non-HDR monitors for PS4, the gameplay looked bright and vivid, however, when compared to an HDR TV there was a notable difference in the 'depth' of the image - particularly in lower light levels.

Do I need 4K on a PS4 monitor?

To take full advantage of the power of the PS4 Pro, getting a 4K monitor is arguably one of the best things to do, but this depends on what you're wanting to get out of your console.

If high visual fidelity and seeing every detail is paramount, then going for a 4K panel is a brilliant idea, especially since some of the best budget 4K monitors have HDR.

However, if sharp response times are going to be key for you, then it is worth sacrificing some visual quality to get a higher refresh rate, as opting for a 1080p monitor should still provide some stunning quality images, with added gaming performance.

What is a good response time for a PS4 monitor?

Anywhere between 1ms and 4ms is good.

You'll find 1080p monitors at 1ms quite often, which we'd say is best for online first-person shooters and anything else fast-paced.

Super high-powered monitors will produce refresh rates of less than 1ms, but that can be considered overkill for most games.

How much should you spend on a monitor for PS4?

Since you don't need an exceptional HDMI 2.1 monitor or super high refresh rates, you can get away with spending much less on a monitor for PS4 than you'd think.

We'd say anything around the $250 and upwards mark will get you something pretty good, with HDR being 'unlocked' more towards $350 or so.

That being said, there are also solid options for much less, that would be good for competitive gaming or certain game genres such as first-person shooters, where every frame counts.
